Dr Emily Cooper

Chartered & Clinical Psychologist

Local, Accessible Psychological Consultation and Treatment

With over 14 years of experience working in the NHS, I have seen how incredibly useful individual therapy can be to many people. There are good reasons to be hopeful things will get better, and therapy will help with this process.

Calm Sea

As a psychologist, you will find me warm, non judgemental, and reassuring. From the initial assessment/consultation we will develop a better overview and understanding of the problems you are experiencing and a clear plan of how to address them, in an approach that is structured and evidence-based, whilst flexible, responsive and tailored to your needs and preferences.  Just a 5 minute drive from Caterham Town Centre, and 20mins from Redhill, I offer day time and some evening appointments on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays- face to face from my home office or online. Please note I do not see clients under the age of 18.

Since qualifying in 2005 I have worked in Adult Mental Health services in the NHS, providing psychological assessments and therapy for people experiencing a wide range of mild to severe difficulties, including anxiety and depression, OCD, PTSD and other trauma related difficulties.

I am a member of the British Psychological Society (Membership number: 097336) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (Reg no. PYL 16520). I am registered with all the major insurance companies, including BUPA, AXA-PPP and AVIVA.

Sessions are £115 for a 60 minute appointment.

What To Expect At Your Visit

Making the initial step may feel daunting. Please contact me by email in the first instance, and I'd be more than happy to arrange a phone call conversation for you to ask any questions you may have, and help you consider whether or not to book in a session. You may also find it worthwhile to try an initial assessment/consultation session, which offers a containing, supportive space away from life’s demands and stresses, to explore how therapeutic input can help.

As a clinical psychologist, what I offer involves more than talking through what is troubling you. Clinical psychologists are trained to a specialist level in applying what up to date clinical research has found helpful when treating particular problems. I tend to offer an integrative approach in therapy that is adapted according to a map (formulation) we will have developed in early sessions. I use a range of evidence based therapies tailored to the individual including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). I have advanced skills in treating trauma related difficulties such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, offering government (NICE) recommended treatments: Trauma Focused CBT and EMDR. I am an EMDR Accredited Practitioner.
